Nick Baptista

Editor and Co-Owner

   Nick Baptista and his wife Kathy have been Calaveras County residents since 2001. They have two children, Ken and Laura. Ken is a senior at Whittier College and Laura is a junior at Bret Harte High School.

   Kathy is a teacher at Angels Creek Community Day School.

   Baptista’s entire career has been devoted to community journalism. His first newspaper job after graduating in 1977 from San Jose State University was as a reporter for the Elko (Nevada) Daily Free Press. He has been assistant managing editor of The Union in Grass Valley, managing editor of the Roseville Press-Tribune, editor of the Gridley Herald, general manager of the Calaveras Enterprise and publisher of the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza during his 26 years in the profession.

    While publisher of the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza, the newspaper won the Nevada Press Association’s prestigious General Excellence Award for large weeklies in 1996 and 2000.
